10 Years With Mikey LeBlanc

This week we celebrate Method's 10 Years with one of our favorites: the one and only Mikey LeBlanc! There is very little this angry shred leprechaun that has brought so much laughter and creativity to snowboarding hasn't accomplished in his long and illustrious career.

Homeboy has been focused on shredding the streets in the last few years, but Mikey was stomping 9's in the Utah backcountry when you were still a zygote. His video parts pack more punch than an uppercut from Mike Tyson, defying the laws of gravity and cartilage. He also showed us how you to punch your own self in the face when things aren't going too smoothly.

Monsieur LeBlanc can also be thanked for creating some amazing movies in the past with Kidsnow Production (and now with his new project, Videograss), not to mention being the driving force behind some of the most tasteful and fashion-forward shred threads around with Holden. Like we said, there is little Big Mike hasn't done and done well. Here's what he had to say!

Where were you and what were you doing in:
2000?
I was in Utah, filming with MDP and Whitey (Kingpin Productions).

2002?
I was in Utah filming with Whitey and dreaming up the new company called Holden.

2004?
I was in Utah filming for, editing and producing my first video, which was called "loveHATE" and working up the new company called Holden.

2005?
I was in Utah filming for, editing and producing my second video called "Burning Bridges" and working up the new company called Holden.

2008?
I was in Utah filming for Absinthe and for "In Short" (with David Benedek), and running Holden. We bought back the license from K2 that year too... So hectic and stressful... BUT WORTH IT!!!

Now?
I'm living in Portland, running Holden, and produced a new video called "Videograss", and I’m having one of the best years ever!!!

Worst bail in 10 years?
I broke my neck in Hood in the halfpipe in 2003. I was trying to do a 1080 for my MDP part and caught my toe edge on the take-off, I went maybe 8 feet above the lip and out into the flat bottom of the pipe. Landed on my neck. Didn’t go to the doctor for a whole year and couldn’t turn my head for 8 months... Harsh one...

Anyone that is still famous now that should have been left at the millenium door?
That’s real easy, George Bush.

What music were you listening to in in 2000 and do you still listen to it today?
Man, I have partied WAY too much to remember that. But probably it was left behind years ago.

Worst move you pulled when you were wasted in past 10 years?
Cheating on a girlfriend, she had it coming, but still LAME!!!

If you could have lived in a different era, which one would it be?
No better time than now, but if I had to pick, maybe the late 60’s... A lotta free love and free thinking.

Favorite movie of the past decade?
Subjekt Haakonsen, obviously...

Jed Anderson and Keegan Valaika.

Have snowboarders gotten smarter over the years or just more wasted?
Less wasted, more boring.

What do have to say to Method for surviving alcohol poisoning for a decade?
Welcome to my world.

How many groupies have you banged in the last 10 years?
Man, I loved them all, really. That kinda loving is very mutual and awesome... But I do know that no matter how many I have had, it is still far less than Darrel Mathes.

Would you like thank snowboarding for anything?
Yes, thank you snowboarding for anything!!!

PhotobucketBanana boards might be all the rage, but Mikey knows that toboggans are where it's at

How does your bank account compare to what it looked like 10 years ago?
Way smaller.

Top 3 who's who of snowboarding in the last 10 years?
MFM, Terje and Shaun White.

Who's video part do you wish was yours in the last 10 years?
Peter Line in Stomping Grounds. Or Terje in Subjekt Haakonsen.

After 10 years what sensitive information can you declassify?
Joel Mahaffey and I fixed a vote at some quarterpipe contest in Sweden. One of these "the riders judge themselves" events. It was rad because Joel and I were not contest dudes, more video guys. We rode early then went and got drunk. By the time judging came around we noticed that a few of the riders weren't there to judge so we cast one extra vote each. At the time David Benedek was a rookie am, I had never heard of him and he was ripping. Wille Yli-Luoma was also there and he was riding good too. BUT everything Wille did, David also did just as big, except switch... So we voted 2 times each for David and he won by, you guessed it: one vote. Which means we fixed the contest. HAHA, fuck it, David might have made a career move because of that!!! I don't regret it at all.

I would have, could have, should have been...

A rock star. I chose between my band and snowboarding... and we were good.

What has drastically changed that would be hard for kids to believe these days?
Skiers and snowboarders HATED each other back in the day. We would get in lift-line altercations all the time 10 years ago. Oh yeah, and you used to have to wear a leash... So lame.
