CHUUCH - Asking for Redemption

CHUUCH's last year's movie was a pagan liturgy full of unorthodox shredding and board sacrifices and it sure made some waves in the board world. Now the teaser for their upcoming movie IF YA SCARED GO TO CHUUCH just dropped and it entails a promise of salvation that eclipses your average Jonestown suicide cult. The Church is steadily growing and these guys are straight up radicals. What started in the shadows of Mt. Hood back in '07 gained momentum like a mudslide: The new CHUUCH movie is gonna feature an army of up to 50 riders (and counting) and it seems there is no way to stop those guys. We talked to the filmer Leif Draznin-French about the founding myth, Euros and how to save our souls from burning in the eternal lake of fire.

- Is there a founding myth for your Church?

IF YA SCARED, GO TO CHUUCH

- Are you being recognized as a religious organization already?
Yes.

- Did you consider blackmailing the IRS, just like Scientology did back then?

We are the IRS.

Who's part of the original crew?
The OG Chuuch was started round 07-09ish by Kornbred, Matt Turner, Alex Kollar and a bunch of other Oregon loccs boarding Mt. Hood.

How did the Chuuch expand and how did it all come together?
I knew all the original dudes from boarding on Hood. I'm a few years older than everyone and went off to school in Montana, but I always would come back and ride with those dudes on break or summers at Mt. Hood. Summer 2012 I got a camera setup and started filming Kornbred, Turner, James Wilson, Stu Wozniak, Dylan Hallowell, Terrance Haverlandt, and a bunch of other homies up for the summer in the Timberline Public Park and that's how I started making the videos for the Chuuchcrew. We all just worked for Timberline and shredded the public park during the day, there were some intense hike sessions that summer. That following winter I moved to Salt Lake City to film more street and that's how Chuuch got into the full length game. The crew's definitely expanded, but it's still mostly people I've met during summer's at Hood or winter's in SLC.

- Are you still recruiting disciples? It seems like you're holding an army waiting to be unleashed.
Yes, we're always programming new athletes.

- What's your take on the European scene?
I think the Euro scene is dope. I think people are equally passionate about boarding there as they are here in the U.S.. I studied in Salzburg, Austria for a year in 2011 and had a great time riding Flachauwinkl, Kitzsteinhorn and Dachstein. I found the terrain and vibes to be equally as good as any mountains I've ridden in the U.S.

- Any riders you'd like to convert?
My dude David Struber is my favorite European rider. Hopefully one day he'll come visit for some street sessions in SLC or summer shred at Hood!

Is the Messiah still to come?
Hopefully we can continue to provide the internet with quality snow and skateboard videos for years to come.

- Are you scheming plans to destroy the boardworld like Tyler Durden? Maybe you could place tons of self-made explosives at the next Olympic Games?
Na, we're not really trying to destroy the boardworld, just make tight videos.
Mahalo you fuckin' surfers. Jack Cornell plays in the sand.
- Where should this all end and what's the point of it anyway?

Hopefully it doesn't end and it's Chuuch to tha Universe.
