Jules Reymond: Ketchup

Jules Reymond is a Swiss shred freak. He crushes the metal, charges steep-ass lines in AK and throws down big in the backcountry. Last year he spent the majority of his winter nursing his body back to health on the couch. Now Jules is rehabilitated and ready to relocate back to SLC, homeboy is amping to get in the mix again. Read on to find out what Jules looks like splattered with Ketchup.

Hey Jules, where are you right now and how has your summer been?
Hi man, my summer has been real good. I am chllin' in Vevey, Switzerland, that's my hometown and it's been pretty sunny these past few months, so I am stoked. We have had some good parties with good people. I am a happy man.

You got hurt early in the season filming for Absinthe, what happened?
Yep, I did. I bruised two ribs at a contest in Switzerland and then a month later I twisted my knee pretty hard on a random move in the Utah backcountry. That was pretty much the end of my season.

Nasty, so you spent most of the winter in rehab, how did it feel to be on the bench?

It feels like shit, man! Especialy now with all the new videos coming out. I want to ride more than ever.

You told me a big part of your rehab is trying not to skate, why is that?
Ha, it's true, and it's making my life even more boring at the moment. I just don't want to be almost well enough to ride and then suddenly break another bone because I am having too much fun skating and then be back on the couch.

You are helping a friend with distribution of his clothing company, what's the deal with that?

My roommate Pierre has a company called Display, which distributes brands like OBEY, Alife, 10deep and a few more in Switzerland. It's the first time I have had to really work in my life, I think, but it's not too bad and I have to make some loot if I want to continue riding this season.

Are you learning a lot and would this be something you would like to pursue after you have finished being a pro snowboarder?
Yes, I am. I still don't know what I want to do after snowboarding. That's probably the hardest choice for me right now.

Let's take it back a bit, how did you get involved with the Absinthe crew in the beginning?
I had just gotten fired from my apprenticeship when I met Vlad (David Vladyka, Absinthe filmer) in a club in Lausanne. He told me I had an opportunity to film with them so I jumped on it. I think Romain de Marchi and Nicolas Droz really  pushed for me to be on Absinthe. I had no real sponsors at the time and those guys really took me under their wing. I can't thank them enough.

And do you still call Switzerland your home?
Yes, for sure! I still love it. All my homies and family are here. I always love being in my hometown all summer to party and see my friends before hitting the road again.

What are the best and worst things about living in Salt Lake City, Utah?
The best part is for sure the great mountains, sick snow, all my homies and amazing burritos... BUT it is horrible for partying. Ha.

How frothing are you to get back on your stick and what are the first 3 things you are going to do?
I am soooo motivated to snowboard right now, I can't wait to start riding again. I will probably, first, strap into my bindings, second, crack a huge ollie over a pillow and third, probably ragdoll super hard because my nose went under. Ha.

What makes you angry in the mountains?
Not too much these days. I am a pretty peaceful guy up there.

What would you do right now if I gave you a million dollars cash?
I would buy a big house in SLC and continue riding for myself. Simple as that!

If you had the power to change one thing right now in the world what would it be?
Wow! Sorry man, I got way too much to say on that one. So many things I would want to change.

Do you think Mexicans ever say to each other, "let's go get some Mexican food tonight"?
Haha! I don't know, maybe?

If I came around to your house today what would I find in your fridge?
You would find my special homemade burgers, beef, fish, more beef, a few veggies and of course beer.

The Absinthe tour recently stopped through Barcelona and I spoke to some of the boys, they said the bus was way more mellow and way less stinky this year without you, what do you have to say about that?
I dont know what to say, hahaha. The tour is crazy. You don't need to have your shit together, all you have to do is party hard and climb on the bus before 8 am, and then you wake up in a new city with friendly people everyday and do it all over again. The bus is like a rolling disco, when the party is over in the club, we still got the bus.

You have a reputation for shredding hard and partying hard, where does this come from?
If you want to do something, do it right!

You used to ride rails, now you ride the steeps, how much do you think your riding has changed in the last few years and why?
My riding has changed a lot since I started following the Absinthe crew around and I got my mind blown by Alaska and the big terrain there. I think I was pretty tired of all the drama, the cops, supercitizens, and all the retards that come with riding in the streets. I just wanted to be in the backcountry with my friends and no one else. But now I have started to like rails more and more again, especially since I've been spending my winters in SLC riding with Bode, Cale and Brisse. Those guys make it look so easy and have so much fun.

How do you deal with stress?

I dont stress that much in my life, I guess, and when I do it doesn't last too long. I just sit back, relax and...

What are your plans for winter, where are you going to live and have you any projects in the pipeline?
I will go back to Salt Lake in a month. I can't wait to see all of my friends there. I will try to spend most of the winter in the USA. I will probably continue to follow the Absinthe crew whenever I can. I look forward to riding with the homies at Brighton and Snowbird and try to hang a lot with my man Nico Droz.

Shout outs?
Yo, thanks to my family, Absinthe crew, Vlad, Shane, Brusti, Justin, my sponsors Nitro, Hannes, Levitation Project, Nico Nolan and family, you and the Method crew, my homies, Neya, Job1, La Famille Commend, Christian, Romain, Nico, JP, Lungie, Bode, Steve, LJ, Butters, Cale, Daweed, Valon, Tonton, Doumi, Bouchkail, Mark Shultz and family, Bruce Bauer and family, Matt G, Andrew, Shane again, secret spot, Mary Jane, Tom Burt, Shin Campos, Mike Ranquet, Zidane, Sherwin, all the photographers and cameramen, editors and riders that made snowboarding what it is and all the people that I hanged with thru the years. Thank you!
