The GenoCERAPTOR

If you don't know who Sean Genovese is, you are definitely NOT paying attention... Geno is not only one of our favorite snowboarders in the world, he's also one of our favorite humans. So much so that we did a feature story with him in issue 13.4 (click HERE to check it out). He also put together our favorite part in our favorite movie of the year, a two-song beast of an ender that reassured us snowboarding hasn't completely lost the plot just yet. In that spirit, Geno put together this badass B roll exclusively for METHOD, so what are you waiting for, press play and then go pick up a copy of the DWD Team Video, it's a keeper! It's okay, you can thank us later. When you are about to do something big on your board do you have a little voice in your head that says "fuck no, that's retarded"?
That's the same voice that reminds you that you're about to get a good clip for your video part.

What's different about filming a two-year part as opposed to a regular, single season part?
It depends what you want out of your video part. I was tired of making the same video part every year. Two seasons gives you the chance to get out of your comfort zone and try something or go somewhere that you might not have otherwise.
Did you know dinosaurs evolved from birds? Geno spreads his wings on this HEAVY gap to back lip in Whistler. Photo: Oli Gagnon
So your company is called Dinosaurs Will Die, can you clarify who the dinosaurs are and has the meteor hit yet?
Strive to create with substance and the meteor will never hit.

At this point are you more concerned about your success or your company's?
I'm most concerned with the success of the Dino family... but I think that goes hand in hand with the company... If they're successful, DWD is successful.

Do you have a favorite dinosaur?
Naw... I don't think I was ever even that into dinosaurs as a kid. Is that lame? If I had to choose, it would probably be triceratops... there's something rad about having swords on your head.

What theory about how the actual dinosaurs became extinct do you believe?
The one about them eating their own tails.

Do you think it would have been rad if we existed alongside them? What would have been some advantages? Disadvantages?
Big ones? Or little ones? We already got lizards crawlin' around...
Just cuz it's strapped to your feet doesn't make it any less gnarly, Geno doubles down on the double set. Photo: Alex Mertz
How is making a new piece of art similar to doing a new stunt on your snowboard?
It's all creating. Snowboarding is just performance art.

Do you ever have moments in the street like "what the fuck are we doing hopping off roofs, riding under rails and slapping cones, I just want to got make a fast turn in powder…"?
The grass is always greener on the other side.

When was the last time you questioned your sanity?
Question everything, or you'll never get answers.

Do you think anyone's interpretation of the world through their eyes is similar to another person's? Is this the same for snowboarding?
I think most people interpret the world in a similar way... the ones that don't are considered geniuses, or deranged. You could say the same for snowboarding too, in a way... but I think snowboarding is less about the interpretation than it is the limits and rules that we apply to it. The ones that have ignored snowboarding's rules are geniuses on their boards... the ones that ignore the limits are considered deranged.

Are your sessions more like Disney movie or Greek tragedy? Like, are there weird sexual innuendos, gods, goddesses, talking animals and wine flowing like water?
Hmmmmm... None of the above. Maybe weird sexual innuendos, actually... so whichever that fits into.

Why flannel shirts but not flannel pants?
Bring the heat with flannel sheets.

What is easier to do: have a good idea or actually materializing the idea?
Ideas are the easy part. Materializing it takes patience and determination... so a lot of them don't see the light of day.
Steezy does it, gnarly switch back board thru a redirect ledge in AK. Photo: Alex Mertz
Is imagination the foundation for reality or is a good grasp on reality the foundation to letting your imagination wander?
Without knowing it, most people limit their own imaginations. The limitations of our imaginations are how each of us perceive our own reality... the crazies know no boundaries. Be crazy.

If one can ride street in Alaska, can one get good powder runs in Big Bear or Helsinki?
For sure... They might be few and far between, but they're out there.
You can't step to this, switch melonchollie into the bank. Photo: Alex Mertz
What are two things in life that are important to conjugate to deal with an imperfect future?
Straight up... warm hearts and compassion.

Good ideas are like slippery fish, what do you do make sure they don't all get away, do you have an idea journal or just a really good memory?
Idea books. Everybody should have one and use it to write and sketch every idea and thought down... fill it and then get another. Quit telling the world what you ate for breakfast and use that time to write down an idea or three. Draw pictures... and don't let any of them be confined by rules.... idea books have no rules.
