Last 5 Star TTR World Snowboard Tour Event in Oslo, The Arctic Challenge

Midtstuen, Oslo Norway (28 - 4 March,2006) - Terje Haakonsen's passion to inject unprecedented levels of perfection into snowboarding has once again seen his legendary event, The Arctic Challenge by Oakley, select a more refined location allowing only the best Quarterpipe, the most progressive of riders and the sharpest judging critics to converge, collaborating and catapulting his opus together with the sport of freestyle snowboarding to higher levels.

Located a short tram ride from down town Oslo, Norway's capital city, the five day events 10meter-high Quarterpipe will be the canvas for unprecedented performance and showmanship. Televised worldwide, any one of the thirty qualified riders will be focusing on breaking the World Record height, currently set at 9.3 meters above the coping of the Quarterpipe. And with the epic conditions being witnessed at the Olso Quarterpipe that record could well tumble.  The lucky high flyer will be rewarded with a $25,000US dollar Oakley Gold Time Bomb watch if the illusive 10meter height is cracked(20meters above the gound). Additionally $40,000US dollars prize money will go to podium placed overall, best trick and highest air winners.

With 850 TTR Championships points available this will be the last 5(five) Star event in Europe and could yet again, as seen many time during the season be a key crossroad for vital Championships points.  The TTR World Nr#1 title is currently held by Finland's Risto Mattila, 34.49 points ahead of France's Mathieu Crepel with Switzerland's Nicolas Mueller a further 37.49 points back in third. Mattila currently holds one 1st and three 2nd places in his card set and a win at The Arctic Challenge would bolster his lead as the tour comes into its closing months of competitions.

With previous Arctic Challenge quarterpipe winners including Terje Haakonsen(NOR), Travis Rice(USA), Andy Finch(USA), Gian Simmen(SUI) and Markus Keller(SUI) being joined by TTR Season Rookie of the Year Torstein Horgmo from Norway(currently 4th on the Championships board) and top tour competitors Fredrik Austbø, Danny Davis, Kevin Pearce also qualifiers Inge Wiig, Ulirk Badertcher, Hennig Martinsen, Terje Skulstad and grommets like Jessy Blackwell (13 years old), Staale Sandbech (12 years old) the 2006 Arctic Challenge will be surely be a record breaking week of action.
