The Nikita Iceland Park Project finishes its 5th year.
First and foremost we want to say thanks to our sponsor Nikita, our media partners Onboard, SCUK and Hot-Zone and all the guests who have come out to IPP over the years to make the camp what it is.
Every year offers new challenges and this year was no exception with the weather keeping us on our toes. The final week of the camp was again marred by bad weather but we still managed to
make the most of it by riding in all conditions, checking out all the local interests and experiencing Iceland at its best and worst.
Gen//:Ex managed to make an appearance on
Friday on a quick in and out mission to snowboard, surf and skate in the same day. The Gods were obviously looking down on them as
they got the best the park and Iceland had to offer with weather, surf and obviously a fully shaped park. The rest of the guests headed off for a surf in the morning and afterwards Tim even managed to make it up to the park for a quick session before
heading back to Reykjavik to experience the night life.
All the staff who helped us with the camp lead the activities by example, especially some of the drinking games, and without their motivation and energy the camp would not be the same.
Now with 5 years under our belt we are looking forward to making next year even better using our experience and knowledge. The local contacts that have been gained over the years are hugely important as in an area like Snaefell it is the locals who provide the facilities and equipment to allow us to run the camp. They must find it bizarre in a way when these strange skiing and snowboarding foreigners
appear on their doorstep for 3 weeks every year and double the population of the village but I think they are getting used to it.
Next year there will also be snowboard instruction on offer in the park after the success of Tim's teaching this year with his new CASI instructors qualification, everyone he taught improved significantly over the week. The surfing will again become a bigger aspect of our camp with much easier access to our top break and more kit on offer to check out.
The Snaefell peninsula is like no other place on earth, it offers landscape and activities that are truly original and certainly not
found in any other snowboard camp. Hopefully we will see you next year to check it all out.
Happy sliding,
Rob, Bjarni and Graham.
