Gnarly Clothes

What is "gnarly"? I mean, what does it actually mean? Originally the word referred to the knots and knobs of a gnarled tree trunk (hence the tree logo). In the 60's, "gnarly" evolved into an adjective used by surfers who were too stoned to get in the water because "the waves are too gnarly, man". In other words, choppy and uneven, just like a gnarled tree trunk. As time went on and skateboarding and snowboarding came into being, skaters and shredders alike took on surfing's lingo as their own. Nowadays, "gnarly" stands for all the hectic shit that goes down in snowboarding, whether it be sketchy steeps in the backcountry or a disgusting kinked rail in the streets. But once a rider can get through the gnarly obstacle, the person is then awarded the adjective and the spot is no longer gnarly, the rider is.

Peep examples of gnarliness in Keegan Valaika's closer part in Bozwreck 2:

Keegan
and his homies were not really feeling the industry's approach to snowboarding so they decided to do something their way. Thus the inception of Gnarly Clothes. They started with hoodies and tees but have moved onto other streetwear, and expect more Gnarly awesomeness real soon. The prints so far have a much more peaceful "love your neighbor" approach than the "rock & roll" and skulls stuff that much of the industry has been pushing the past couple of seasons. The Gnarly crew (aka Advocates) includes  Keegan, Boznuts, Lane Knaack, Jeremy Grendahl, Jonas Michilot, Nick Russell, Timmy Ronan, Ethan Deiss, Alex Stathis and Wyatt Stasinos.

Go check out some the tees below (now distributed in Europe by Good Question Supplies). It's just some homies doing what they love so make sure you get some goods to help water the Gnarly tree and increase the peace! gnarlyclothes.com
