ODE TO FORTY is a short snowboarding video to celebrate forty-year-old Talma Ski resort by Risto Järvelin & Joonas Eloranta. It was all shot in 8mm for the occasion and that's a great choice!
"My beloved home turf Talma is turning 40-years-old this winter so Risto Järvelin and I made a little ode for the place. We tried to emulate a timeless approach to the film, hence it was a no-brainer to choose super 8 film for video and 35mm film for photos." - Joonas Eloranta
If you're curious how they made this video:
"Risto filmed everything to five 3-minute-long film rolls on two separate days. I did the editing part and riding part mostly. Cameos are from Risto and Petrus Koskinen. Risto composed and recorded the first song and the second song is instrumental version of Marvin Gaye’s Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, again with a little twist by Risto. For the raw cut, and also for Risto’s recordings, we used a 95bpm metronome on background to give a solid tempo throughout the timeline. Snowboarding sounds were recorded later on, on a really windy day and enhancing & syncronizing the sound with the video clips gave us a little trouble. All in all, it was a big learning curve for both of us and took way longer than expected to get everything right but in the end it came out like we wanted to." -Joonas & Risto
