What kind of music do you make these days? Is anything fresh coming out?

I make instrumental melodic music and recorded an EP lately, so stay tuned.

TUNE IN TO JOHAN'S EP "ELEKTRISK URLADDNING"

 

Tell us about your project ‘Tune’.

It's about snowboarding and making music with friends, it’s very simple. *laughs* What originally was going to be a one month trip to Salt lake city ended up being a two month supertrip loaded with the best snowboarding conditions I've ever experienced. We filmed almost all the stuff at Brighton Resort because of it's natural playful terrain and jump-building possibilities. It was also a very good snow year over there and the powder stayed good for long so I just could not go home after only one month. Not only was the snowboarding good, the surrounding of fantastic people made me linger as well.  I stayed at Mikey Leblanc’s house with roomates Naima Antolin, Mike Rav, Gus Warbington, and Mikey’s cat Pony.

 

What was the process of filming and recording for the video?

Harry Hagan reached out to me one day and asked if I had something I wanted to record and we did record three songs for my upcoming EP album. That sparked the idea of recording my own song for my snowboard project. We filmed first with Jed Sky and Mike Rav with John Blume as the main filmer and a few shots from Kyle Murray. Then, together with Harry, Lindsey Elliot, Brandon Cocard, Mike Rav, and Kevin Court (aka GraveDigger), we recorded a song I felt would fit the snowboard movie. We actually finished the song just a few hours before I flew back home to Sweden, straight from the studio to the airport. 

A day would look like this: Wake up early - go film snowboarding with the homies until the afternoon - go home and hang out at the poolside in the backyard and play some music - go to Jamspace (Mike Rav and his homies music studio), and play until late.

Why and how is music important to the snowboard community?

I feel like live performances of music are slowly dying within the community, so it's nice to see snowboarders play after an event or so to bring everybody together.

What are your music influences in general and in the snowboard culture?

My influences comes from everywhere - whatever I hear. I like analog recorded music with instruments like a Chinese Pipa, an out of tune piano or a fat sounding guitar backed with a tight drum and bass foundation. When it comes to snowboarding, I think the soundtrack of the Absinthe film Futureproof is the one that inspired me the most.
